I’m Hector C. Gurrola, a proud ‘90s baby who survived Y2K and got my start coding HTML on MySpace. Before stepping into the world of tech and design, I spent 10 years in the Permian Basin oil & gas industry as a truck driver—starting with hotshots, moving on to water and crude oil hauling, and spending my last four years as an owner-operator transporting sand. When the trucking market took a hit with rate cuts that made operating costs unsustainable, I knew it was time for a new path.
In late ‘22, I moved back to Lamesa to keep my father company after he had been alone for years following the loss of my mother in January of ‘17. His health declined, and he needed in-home care. Our family couldn’t afford professional nursing, and with my siblings spread across Texas, I couldn’t leave my dad alone. I made the tough decision to quit my job in oil and gas to be there for him. I knew it wouldn’t be easy—family responsibilities, bills piling up—but I couldn’t turn my back on the man who migrated from Mexico to give us better opportunities.
During this time, I decided to go back to college and learn something new—technology, something I had always been passionate about. I attended Howard College for a semester in late ‘22 and later took cybersecurity courses in San Antonio in the spring of ‘23. Unfortunately, in February of ‘23, my father passed away. His loss was devastating, but it fueled my drive to honor his sacrifices by pushing forward, building something meaningful, and creating a legacy that my own children can be proud of.
I originally launched IBT Website Design, but soon after, I rebranded to Tech Father Design & Printing Co. to build a stronger brand and take this journey to the next level. This adventure took off with faith in God, determination, and a dream—a dream to break free from the 8-5 grind and long oilfield hours so I could spend more time with my kids. Now, with our recent expansion into the Mexico market, I’ve been traveling more, making sacrifices to build a legacy my children can be proud of. My mission is to show them that success doesn’t come from following the norm but from thinking outside the box, taking risks, and chasing dreams.
